OUTREACH EFFORTS
The period covered: February 1, 2012 through January 31, 2013.
I. SCHOLARSHIP
In June 2012 New South Radio Inc. established a scholarship program at Mississippi College. An annual $500.00 scholarship shall be awarded to a deserving Junior or Senior majoring in broadcasting. Mississippi College submitted three candidates for this years scholarship. Each candidate was interviewed by the General Manager of New South Radio, Inc. On Thursday, September 6, 2012 Leisha NeSmith was awarded the 2012 Radio People Scholarship.
II. JOB FAIR
On July 13, 2012 New South Communications hosted an on-site recruitment fair at their studios located at 265 Highpoint Dr., Ridgeland, MS 39157. The following people from the station where on hand to provide introductions into the radio broadcasting business: Gwen Rakestraw, General Manger, Bill Rakestraw, General Sales Manager, Nancy Fltcher, Local Sales Manager, John Anthony, WJKK Program Director, Chloe D, WYOY Air Personality, Carson Case, WYOY Program Director, and Fisher Alexander, Production Director. In addition to the actual exposure to the operations of a radio station, Hinds Community College wa son hand to provide information on their Radio and Television Production and Broadcast Technology Program.
The Job Fair was well advertised by commercials on all five stations, live remotes during the Job Fair, Outreach letters sent to all organizations on the stations Recruitment Source list, and Facebook postings on the Hinds Community College School of Broadcast Facebook page. The Job Fair was a success and provided and avenue for candidates who are pursuing a degree in broadcasting an opportunity to receive first hand information and some on-hands experiences.
III. INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
The Radio People of Jackson partnered with Hinds Community College, Utica, MS to provide a student with an opportunity to serve as an intern at the radio station. From October 5 through October 30, 2012, Blaine Case experienced a wide array of the different types of careers associated with broadcasting. A few of his duties were: recording and coding network spots, planning and contributing social media promotions and posting, board operations, organizing winner information and assisting at live remotes. He spent time with WJKK, WYOY, WJXN, and WUSJ. Blain demonstrated a good working knowledge of broadcasting. He was very professional and represented himself and Hinds Community College in a highly professional manner. It was a pleasure having him at the station.
The Radio People of Jackson also partnered with Mississippi College to provide a student with an opportunity to serve as an intern at the radio station. From December 2013 to March 2013, Christy Wyne experienced a wide array of the different types of careers associated with broadcasting. A few of her duties were: board operations, organizing winner information, organizing production records and assisting at live remotes. She spent time with WYOY.
The Radio People of Jackson partnered with Mississippi College, Clinton, MS to provide a student with an opportunity to serve as an intern at the radio station. From January 2013 through April 25, 2013 Victor Barnette experienced a wide array of the different types of careers associated with broadcasting. A few of his duties were: recording and coding network spots, board operations, barter affidavits, voice tracking, assisting in promotional appearances, organizing winner information and assisting at live remotes. He spent time with WJKK, WYOY, and WJXN. Victor demonstrated a good working knowledge of broadcasting. He was very professional and represented himself and MC in a highly professional manner.

I. SCHOLARSHIP
In August, 2011, “The Radio People of Jackson Scholarship” was awarded to Maranda Waddell. “The Radio People of Jackson Scholarship” was established with Holmes Community College in January 2009 and awards $500.00 annually to a deserving student pursuing a career in Communications or Marketing.
II. JOB FAIR
On January 28, 2012 New South Radio, Inc. (WUSJ-FM, WJKK-FM, WYOY-FM, and WIIN-AM) will sponsor a job fair. The job fair will be held at Northpark Mall in Jackson, MS. from 10:00am until 1:00pm.
The following personnel have and will continue to work closely with Northpark Mall marketing personnel to organize and promote the event:
Gwen Rakestraw – General Manager
Bill Rakestraw – General Sales Manager
Nancy Fletcher – Local Sales Manager
Banners, posters and table-toppers have been displayed throughout Northpark Mall promoting the event. New South Radio, Inc. sent flyers to all of the recruitment sources listed on Schedule C. Advertising to solicit employers will be aired on all four stations from January 9th through January 22nd. Advertising inviting employees to attend the job fair will be aired from January 23rd through January 28th.
In addition to the on-air personalities who will be making promotional announcements, the following people are scheduled to be on-site at the job fair answering questions about careers in radio, taking applications, and conducting remote broadcasts from the job fair:
